Paper Humidification System
Optimize starch now
Patented technology
The Buiago humidification system is covered by patent and is designed to ensure reliable process control. The technology guarantees uniform distribution of a controlled mixture of air and hot water along the paper web. This dispensing logic enables precise and repeatable moisture management, reducing variations across the working width.
Project objective
The humidifier has been designed to improve the efficiency and quality of the corrugated cardboard production process. Its main function is to increase the amount of moisture present in the papers during the processing stages. Proper humidification helps prevent structural defects and maintain the flatness and compliance of the cardboard with required standards.
Bonding even at high speeds
Maintaining an optimal moisture level in the paper contributes to making the process more stable and repeatable throughout production. Under these conditions, the effectiveness of bonding between the different components of corrugated cardboard improves, reducing operational issues. The result is maintained even at high line speeds, supporting consistent performance and greater production continuity.
Glue Usage Optimization
When paper lacks moisture, glue dosage is often increased to compensate for process conditions. Humidification eliminates this excess, facilitating starch penetration into the fibers and improving adhesion. This translates into reduced raw material consumption and production costs, with a positive impact on efficiency.

Application Points
Thanks to its compact size, the humidifier can be positioned at various points along the production line to maximize its potential.
Depending on customer requirements, it can be installed with spray directed from top to bottom (towards the fabric) or from bottom to top (towards the corrugator), intervening on strategic line sections in a precise and adaptable manner.
Application Points
DEFECTS IN CORRUGATED CARDBOARD
PREVENTABLE WITH THE BUIAGO APPLICATION
In corrugated cardboard, the balance between humidity and temperature is crucial: imbalances in these parameters can cause defects that compromise flatness, adhesion and strength.
A greater and more consistent supply of moisture reduces these problems before they arise, optimising production efficiency and minimising waste and rework.
WARPING
Warping is a deformation of the corrugated board caused by moisture and temperature variations between the layers. Too low humidity reduces the elasticity of the fibers, causing the deformation.
MICRO-CRACKING
Micro-cracks are thin surface ruptures caused by excessively low moisture, which makes the board and its fibers brittle.
POOR ADHESION
Poor adhesion occurs when the board is too dry and the glue cannot penetrate the layers. This weakens the structure and increases the risk of rupture.
WASHBOARDING
Washboarding is a flute-pattern effect caused by unbalanced moisture and excess glue. It compromises the board's appearance.

POOR ADHESION
La scarsa adesione si verifica quando il cartone è troppo secco e la colla non penetra tra gli strati. Questo
indebolisce la struttura e aumenta il rischio di rotture.

MOISTURE, STARCH AND RESOURCE CONTROL
The Operating Logic
Paper humidification in corrugated board production is the strategic lever to avoid inefficient increases in starch consumption to compensate for low moisture.
Moisture allows the board to heat up while maintaining fiber elasticity, facilitating glue penetration, reducing starch consumption, and improving line speed.
This approach transforms process parameters into concrete results, minimizing waste and maximizing final product quality.
This approach transforms process parameters into tangible results, minimizing waste and maximizing the quality of the final product.
MOISTURE INTAKE
Increases paper moisture using air and hot water distributed uniformly.
1
STARCH REDUCTION
With optimal moisture, fibers remain elastic and the board stabilizes.
2
INCREASED EFFICIENCY
Starch penetrates the fibers better, reducing excess glue and consumption.
3
CONSISTENT QUALITY
More consistent quality, fewer defects, and better efficiency even at high speeds.
4
THE STRENGTHS
Smart-
Solutions
For High And Consistent Performance
Humidification occurs through a mixture of air and hot water, with adjustable temperature up to 80°C.
La portata viene modificata per mantenere costante la quantità di acqua erogata per m² di carta.
Humidification regulated based on the paper web width or on specific zones.
As the line speed varies, the system automatically sets itself to maintain the same quantity of water delivered per per square metre of paper.
